“Class Never Ends at Marcelo Garcia’s Academy”

September 3, 2011

One of the great things about Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is just how much it affects our lives. In my experience, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu students, teachers and competitors are very passionate about their training and love of the art. In my own classes at Jiu Jitsu Kingdom, I try to instil a love for the art and often emphasize that Brazilian Jiu Jitsu training is a lifelong pursuit and a vehicle for of self-improvement, stress release and fun.

Ok so here is another cool clip of Marcelo Garcia staying back after class answering questions and teaching at his New York Academy. Marcelo’s passion for training, teaching and competing is awesome. He is a true gentleman and a role model for us all. Special thanks to John Ricard for editing and uploading the video. Enjoy!

If you liked this video please feel free to sign up to MGinaction and use “Jiu Jitsu Kingdom” as a promo code for a free week. Also please check out Marcelo’s YouTube page which is also done by John Ricard. Stay tuned for some more great videos and posts this week and have a great weekend!

Paul Schreiner: Crucifix From The Back

July 9, 2011

Here at Jiu Jitsu Kingdom, we aim to bring you the very best and help you on your journey towards mastery of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. The following video is some footage filmed during a private class I took with Paul Schreiner at Marcelo Garcia’s Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Academy in New York.

In this video Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Black Belt, Paul Schreiner demonstrates how to acquire the Crucifix from the Back and then finish the Choke from here. Paul is a fantastic instructor who pays incredible attention to detail and has the ability to really break down techniques and help you understand them on a much deeper level. If you ever get the chance to take a private class with Paul, I highly recommend it!

If you are interested in learning  more about this technique or Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in general then please feel free to leave a comment or contact me on my website www.jiujitsukingdom.com . Or if you are based in Sydney or ever find yourself visiting Sydney, Australia then please feel free to stop by Jiu Jitsu Kingdom and take a class! I look forward to hearing from you or meeting you on the mats. Have a great day!

“Joe Moreira Guard Series”

March 5, 2011

Here are some video clips from a Joe Moreira seminar earlier this year that I found on YouTube. Although he covers a lot of basic concepts and techniques I still believe they are excellent and worth sharing! I hope you enjoy them.

Joe Moreira has been around for a long time in Jiu Jitsu circles and even fought in some of the early UFC’s! It is very rare that you get to see a 7th Dan(Coral Belt) demonstrating technique and sharing his knowledge in public so I hope you learn from these videos as I have!

Joe Moreira has produced some excellent black belts such as Roy Harris, Michael Jen, Ed Beneville, Gustavo Froes etc. who are phenomenal teachers with tremendous attention to detail and Joe Moreira has a reputation as a monster on the mat!

I hope you enjoyed these videos and they helped your game! Now go and put what you have learned into practise! 🙂

Clock Choke by Mario Sperry

July 14, 2010

I had th great pleasure of doing a private class(with gi) and a No Gi/MMA seminar with Ze Mario last week! Let me tell you, I believe Ze Mario is one of the greatest BJJ/MMA coaches of all time and as great as he was as a fighter, I believe he’s real gift is as a teacher! I will be posting more about the seminar soon but for now I hope you enjoy a clip from the master of the Relogio(clock choke) from one of his instructional dvds available from www.groundfighter.com.

Ze Mario and I

Oh and on a side note, Ze Mario’s partner in the video is one of Ze Mario’s top students Fabiano Capoani(who graded me to brown belt in May 2008). Please check back for a lot more from the Zen Machine over the next week! Until then…

“Escaping Side Control with Fabio Gurgel”

June 17, 2010

I thought I’d take a moment to post this video of the man known as “The General“, of the mighty Alliance team, Fabio Gurgel. Side Control or “Sem Kilos” as it is often called can be a really tough position to escape against a good opponent. Although the video has been around for a while, I tink very few can match the quality of instruction. Watch below as Fabio Gurgel demonstrates how to escape the standard side control position as well as a variation if your opponent counters, Enjoy!

“Mario Sperry teaching the Half Guard”

May 18, 2010

Here is a clip of legendary Jiu jitsu fighter and teacher, Mario “Zen Machine” Sperry! I found this a while ago and have been meaning to post it for quite some time! Former Multiple time World BJJ/ADCC/PRIDE Champion Mario Sperry shares some of his half guard secrets that he has used at the highest levels of competition! Ze Mario truly is one of the greatest competitors of all time as well as a world-class Jiu jitsu/MMA coach and  has helped bring out the best in many of BTT’s modern-day superstars!!! For those of you who enjoy playing half guard and deep half guard, here is your chance to learn from one of its pioneers!

On a side note I thought this clip was particularly fitting as Ze Mario will be out here in Sydney for a series of seminars in July and I cant wait to train with the master again! I’m very excited and hope to get some exclusive footage of a few techniques for the blog so if there is anything that you would like to see please comment and let me know!

A quick photo at BTT after a gruelling session back in the day! 🙂

“A nasty armbar setup from Team Quest Head Coach Robert Follis!”

March 22, 2010

I had the great pleasure of attending a seminar by Team Quest Head Coach Robert Follis on saturday afternoon and it was far and away one of the best seminars I have ever attended! Robert is a skilled martial artist and a gifted teacher. I thoroughly enjoyed learning from him. Robert was friendly, open-minded and keen to share his vast knowledge with the group! As a coach Robert Follis someone I really look up to and admire in the MMA scene. I’ll write a review of the seminar in the next couple of days but for now, Robert was kind enough to demonstrate a nice armbar setup  that can be used for grappling or mma for the Jiu jitsu Kingdom blog. Check it out below and let me know what you think!

A huge thanks to Robert for such a great seminar and for allowing me to film a technique for the blog! I really hope to get the chance to train some more with Robert Follis and if you ever get the chance to train with him please do so!!! There’s a good reason that he is a highly sought out coach by some of he best fighters in the UFC and MMA.

Good luck with your training and Happy rolling!
